Our Technology
Radiology
Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT)
A CBCT is an x-Ray machine that takes 3D images of the Oral-facial region. This allows 3D planning as well as thorough diagnosis to be made. It assists with diagnosis as well as treatment planning of surgical and Implant cases.
We are based in the suburb of Beacon Bay, serving a community that stretches far beyond the borders of East London.
Our staff are eager to learn and we strive to implement treatment of international standards by keeping up to date with the latest technologies and techniques that dentistry has to offer.
Digital PAN
A digital PAN (Panoramic) dental X-ray will be the gold standard for every patient examined at the ELOHC. It is a 2 dimensional (2D) view of the entire mouth allowing dentists to diagnose and draw up treatment plans.

Digital Cephalometric Radiograph (Ceph)
A Digital Ceph is a radiograph taken to produce a side-view of the face. This is predominantly used in the treatment planning for orthodontic services.
Intra-Oral Scanner
The intra-oral scanner is recent addition to our surgeries. This is an electronic scanner which replaces uncomfortable impression taking techniques with a more comfortable and tolerable technique – Suddenly, the gag reflex during an impression being taken is less! Although, conventional impression taking techniques are still being used during certain procedure at the practice, we are able to use this scanner more widely now. We use it to scan teeth for the laboratory to view on their computer to be able to construct your crown or bridge.
Wand Anaesthesia
Our “magic wand” at the practice waved goodbye to old and scary dental injection syringes. The Wand allows us to perform injections to site of the tooth being treated. This has shown to be a lot more comfortable and less anxiety associated with dental treatment.
The Wand Anesthesia System which we use at ELOHC is a system which relies on computer-assistance to administer local anesthesia to numb the desired area. We as clinicians have found that it provides more patient comfort and a less fearful experience.
Lasers
Diode Laser
The Epic X 940nm diode laser is a great addition to the ELOHC. This laser has been proven to be highly effective and gentle which ensures that patients have a pleasant experience with the procedure. We use this laser with soft tissue procedures- procedures which includes soft tissue surgery, periodontal treatment (treatment of the gums and surrounding tissue) and also assists us with achieving haemostatic of surgical sites along with anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.
Waterlase iPlus
At ELOHC, we are proud to be a Waterlase iPlus user. This is an all-tissue dental laser, which means it allows us dentists to perform dental work on both hard- and soft tissues. This means that the laser has the ability to perform the desired laser treatment on both teeth, bone, gums as well as the lips and tongue.
The laser allows some of our treatments to be less invasive as well as very effective. The Waterlase iPlus works with a combination of laser energy and water, allowing challenging clinical scenarios to be treated with ease.
At ELOHC, we use the Waterlase for procedures which includes endodontic treatment (root canals), soft tissue surgeries such as biopsies and frenectomies (lip- and tongue ties), periodontal procedures (involving the gum and bone surrounding the teeth), as well as surgical procedure such as implant management.
Zumax Dental Microscope
Our Zumax Microscope at ELOHC puts us as dentists in a position where we get to see where others without it can’t! This allows us to meticulously perform intricate procedures, in especially hard to reach places which increases our performance success rate.
Tiny canals during a root canal procedure has suddenly become visible like a road on a map!
Florida Probe
A Periodontal pocket is a space that is formed between the tooth and the adjacent gum tissue. In the case of periodontal disease, the larger the pocket size, the more severity of the periodontal disease. We measure our healthy and diseased pockets using a periodontal probe, or our Florida Probe.
The Florida Probe is a computerised probe that we use to check the depth of periodontal pockets. By using this probe, we can achieve increased clinician productivity, we have improved accuracy with a precision margin of 0.2mm, as well as automatic electronic charting. This assists us with accurate treatment planning for our patients who require periodontal management.
Digital Smile Design
At East London Oral Health Centre we strive to be a fully digital integrated dental practice. We make use of various digital platforms to assist us with planning and executing of treatment plans. This allows us to carefully plan and present cases, discuss all the necessary information and as clinicians can communicate with each other, with our corresponding lab technicians and most importantly with the patient. This approach enables us to include the patient in the process, with an accurate visual digital representation of possible treatment outcomes. With the patient and clinician on the same page with regards to possible treatment outcomes, a positive attitude is enforced.
